I took an intro to Biology course, during which we learned about evolution. One example of proof of modern-day evolution my instructor gave is the breeding of dogs, during which specific traits are able to evolve and change over the course of time and create unique breeds. I was surprised my instructor (and our text) used this as an example, because wouldn't a creationist be able to say that this example also proved their argument since this type of evolution only took place under the guidance of intelligent design (in this case humans)?

You might be right logically, but that's exactly why people don't think intelligent design is science.

The point of scientific theory is that scientific theory must be falsifiable. Meaning if it is science, it must not be perfect. There have to be imaginable scenario where the theory doesn't work.

Let's look at intelligent design. There said to be 'creator' who is obviously very smart, powerful.

Any inconsistency in intelligent design can be dismissed by saying 'well, you'll have to ask the designer, may be designer had purpose you don't understand, may be the designer just felt like making it this way.'

Intelligent design, because it defers explanation to unknowable 'creator' it just can't be falsifiable. And this is widely this is not considered science. Because of creator's involvement anything is possible under intelligent design. And no science is that open ended.

Scientific theories must have strict restrictions and intelligent design is way way way too open ended.

All scientific theories are not perfect and that's why we got so many of them. But we can't have science unless we trust those imperfect ones we have until we find better solutions.

If you want to know why most people consider intelligent design to be pseudo science you must study some philosophy of science and some history of science. These subjects deal with what is science and what is not. And what type of things might fall on border line.

Your Biology teacher gave you a poor example.
You can breed dogs for a trait and breed them out.
You still have a dog and any dog can breed with another dog.
That is not evolution.
When you take a dog and later on after several generations you have a new species that mate with dog they you are getting evolution.

Look at man how the skeletal changes have happen over time that is evolution. We walk up right from that of early monkeys.

Creationists can point to the genetic evidence that proves all dogs came from a single pair.

Intelligent design would point out that the intelligence in this case in man.

Linnaeus categorised us as such and he used to be a creationist. two) There are many tested information in technology, however evolution is only a idea. False as a result of a false impression of the phrase idea. A truth, in technology, is a discrete factor of understanding. Theories attach information and give an explanation for them. it is said dogs are descended from wolves that were domesticated. then the dogs were bred untill they became much different from wolves. wolves still evolved by themselves as far as is known. humans have tinkered with food crops and animals but the intelligent design would not be God if that is what Intelligent Design is arguing for but humans are intelligent and have deliberatley altered the environment so it is valid in that sense the argument of intelligent design is that really ancient people have altered things. it continues even now with genetically modified foods if something happens to us other human varients will likely walk the same path and get upset about intelligent design so you might ask well aren't people intelligent. no the scientists reply only the ones we can prove exist or have existed are intelligent so in the future you and i are out of luck

We tend to think evolution to arrive at a new species as gradual and it is to the extent that a particular species improves itself.

What evolution isn't is a NEW species. It is commonly thought now that new species are a result of a profound mutation, think of a frog suddenly being a land lizard in one generation. What causes this radical leap is not certain.

This theory is demonstrated in a way by man not being able to find the "missing link" from apes to man. No link because it was a leap.

It proves the mechanism of evolution, but not necessarily the theory.

A better example is the influenza virus. As a "wild" life form, and one which reproduces thousands of generations in a year, it "proves" the process of natural selection.

Every year, we humans devise a new vaccine to prevent the virus from doing its damage to us, and every year the strongest virus individuals survive our immune attacks, reproduce, and change into new forms, forcing us to re formulate the vaccines...

IF humans evolved then the evolution was random. Why if evolution is random did we all come out the SAME? If one painting is the same as another painting would you not agree they were created by the same artist?
How then was man created ALL the same if evolution is random?
