I haven't had one yet... I have my first on wednesday! So excited! I'll be 12 weeks then. I was just wondering about how many ultrasounds do you typically have during a pregnancy and at what weeks are they normally? I ask because my partner and I are separated at the moment (due to my parents lack of support of our relationship... but they financially support me. so i'm stuck) and I want him to come to some of them, but I just don't know how many there are.
Thanks!

Why do they only do 2? I could swear they did more. My neighbor had several sets of photos from her ultrasounds... or is there something else they do that I'm mistaking for an ultrasound?

Depends on your doctor and your pregnancy. Some doctors will only do one (at about 20 weeks) during a healthy, non-eventful pregnancy. My doc does 2 normally, one to confirm and date the pregnancy at the first visit, the second at 20 weeks. And then he offers an optional 3D ultrasound for women past 28 weeks that costs $200.
If you're having a rough pregnancy or experience bleeding or cramping, that will increase the number of ultrasounds you have. So fewer is actual preferable from the healthy-baby standpoint.

They usually schedule an 18 week ultra sound and blood tests for screening the baby of any diseases (down syndrom ect.) I had another ultrasound done by a specialist cuz my hospital messed up and scheduled me to late for the 18 week appointment cuz that blood test can only be done between 18 and 20 weeks..and i had one when i was 12 weeks cuz i wasn't sure about my last menstrual cycle. I'm 27 1/2 weeks thats the only unltra sounds ive had so far..

normally there are 2. one around 8-12 weeks and another after 17 weeks (usually at 20-21 weeks ) to tell the sex.
you will have more if you have problems or if you are high risk

there are normally 2 or 3. (more if any complications). Your first one is not until you get 20 weeks and then they will do another one at 30 weeks and so forth. Talk to your doctor and they should have information that will help you plan these days with your childs father. Congratulations and I hope everything works out for you.

I'm guessing it all depends on your dr. I had my first one at 9 wks(internal sonogram)because I was early on. It may also depend on your insurance. From what I know if you have medicaid they only pay for 1 sono unless its medically necesarry for more. Thats what my crazy dr told me at the time a few years ago. But they usually perform 2 one in the beginning of the pregnancy and one towards the end. You can always pay for one on your own but its pricey.

My ob does your first one around 10-12 weeks and the second around 20-22 weeks. You only get more if there is a problem...

Usually one ultrasound, unless there are problems with the baby or your pregnancy. Get ready for a LONG road ahead.

unless there's something wrong they usually only do 1 ultra sound . Between 18-22 week to find out the sex of the baby. Dunno why you get one at 12 weeks but that's the normal way they do it. 1 or 2 ultra sounds unless more are needed.
