I just bought a used 2001 Durango. Under the hood on the fusebox there is a sticker that says "ATTENTION, REMOTE STARTER" and tells to disable it before under-hood work. I have also found a part under the dash that seems to be part of a remote starter kit. Unfortunately neither has any writing on them identifying a brand or anything else. The car did not come with a remote for this starter. Where would the main unit be located so I can find a brand name?

Should have been under the dash. Check the rest of the engine bay and the trunk. If you can't find it anywhere it might have been partly removed.

You can go on line and look up the remotes for your make and year. If the vehicle was bought locally some one may have registered it. I would start with the previous owner if you can get contact or local auto parts store might be able to help you research it.

it is under the dash! it will be hooked into the wires that run up to your key and into your windows and locks and your horn! look for an aftermarket box with a pile of wires coming out of it! then look at those wires to see if they were spliced after the vehichle was made. that should be the remote starter. unless it was installed when they made the truck! in that case go to the dealer with the vin # and ownership!

if you do not have the key fob ( remote ) then you need to start over because I only recall remote start being an aftermarket option. you might be able to find the manufactor of the unit and contact them ???
