Apple computers use the MAC operating system. Dell uses Microsoft Windows. You are pretty much entering the old Apple vs IBM debate.
I have used Microsoft PCs all my life. They have their faults, such as being more prone to viruses, you have to rely on the Microsoft components and every so often you get the "blue screen of death" as your PC crashes dues to some incompatibility issue.
Apple computers are much more stable, but they are less prone to viruses because they have a smaller market share (about 5-10% of the PC market). The hacker mentality is that if you are going to write a virus, you do it so it will affect the most PCs. The other issue is that there is considerably less software available in MAC O/S than in the Microsoft world, and what software there is tends to be a bit more expensive.
That being said, I think that the Apple computers are better if you want a reliable PC and are worried about the spyware, viruses and such out there.
So the big question I always ask is what do you want to use the PC for? Find the software that you want to use first, then decide what PC to get based on that software.
As for Dell Computers specifically, I like them and I am typing on an Optiplex model right now. But you are paying for the name and the convenience that they offer. They give you a CD to fix all problems, the firmware on the system is designed for easy maintenance, and you let them do all the work putting it together. I only have two issues with them:
1) If you want to make any changes on them, you pay through the nose. I bought extra memory for my PC at Kingston Technology because Dell wanted three times what I paid, and wanted to charge me shipping on top of that.
2) I bought my father a Dell and it had problems. We had the technician onsite four or more times to fix a crashing issue that turned out to be faulty memory. He changed the motherboard, hard disk, video card, and memory before finally figuring out the problem. And we had issues with getting the RIGHT memory because the PC I bought came from USA but was shipped to Canada...The Canadian memory chips apparently don't use the same Dell part number and they got all confused.

It rather all depends upon how so much you desire to spend you most effective rather obtained 2 offerings of method Apple that's MAC or PC that's Dell, HP,Etc. Now the sorts of OS's are a complete tale all in combination. Dell and PC's are the inexpensive choice and there nice is all right however Apple may be very costly however they're of a higher nice and will use both OSX or home windows Operating techniques. Good good fortune and glad searching I might Pick the PC however placed Linux on it intent i hate microsuck!!!

Hey Dan Man,
Apple computers are much better product. They have been around over twenty years. They also believe in protecting the enviorment using certain energy consumption and they are particular about the raw materials used in their product. Also, you less prone to getting bad viruses than most computers. Apples are excellent. Laptops in particular. They are excellent in editing and graphics. Hope this helps.

Better for what purpose? This is a meaningless question - you need to define what you are looking for.
