No. I don't believe in good to the last drop. Don't care much for cheapskates either.

Dear Reserved;
I can't remember if I ever have. Maybe.
My guess would be that there probably wasn't anymore ketchup and the host felt that diluting the residue was the best way to get a little more. I have cut the bottle apart and used a spatula to retrieve the last bit when my two children need ketchup for their french fries, and I've dipped fries into the cap myself...
If there was another bottle just sitting there and he still used the water... that would be a bit much in my oppinion.
Happy BBQ'ing!

Maybe it was more for convenience sake since a host couldn't leave a party to run to the nearest grocery store for more ketchup. But, still, that IS really cheap. It reminds me, however, of my mother who was born during the 1920's and lived through the Depression years in the south (Tennessee, to be exact). Now, that woman knew how to save a dime! She, too, would water-down the ketchup and mustard bottles so as to not waste a drop. She also watered down the shampoo bottles when us teens washed our hair so often. My mother scrimped and saved and when she passed away, she had a tidy sum of money accumulated to show for all her efforts. Maybe that is how the rich get rich--by being very watchful of every dime spent...or saved.

I've done it with tomato sauce - when I empty the jar in the pot, I'll just put a little water to get the rest but it doesn't really effect the sauce cuz it gets mixed in with the rest in the pot anyway. I've never done that with ketchup. Watery ketchup just doesn't sound good especially if it's going directly on buns and not mixed in with anything.

Well, sometimes, depends on if there is another bottle of ketchup in the pantry and how badly I want ketchup.
This is something you do only at home and never in the presence of others. Never. It's like an etiquette thingy, I guess.
There's an art to it though, and like a house plant, too much water is a bad thing.
Keep going and its not longer ketchup, ya know?

I do that to clean out the bottle before i toss it in the recycle bin, but not to serve to guests. If I'm running low on ketchup, I'll just toss 'em a packet out of all the ones I get from fast food joints

Nope. You hold the bottle diagonally down and tap the 57 on the side of the bottle a few times. It will start flowing out.
Seriously you should try it!

Watery ketchup? No way. When it gets to where I can't get anymore out I rinse it out and throw the bottle in the recycle tub.

Well now you know why he has a lot of money. LOL, BUT NO, I never do this. Yes I do BUT ONLY when I am in the process of cleaning the bottle before I put it in the recycle bin.

That's the sign he is a tight-wad.
At a family reunion about fifteen years ago, my cousin (who drives a new Mercedes every year and I only see once a year unless it's at a funeral) was asked if she wanted to put in fifty cents for a raffle. The prize was all the money collected. She turned and asked her husband if it was alright. He pondered for about five seconds and said "I guess you can this one time". What a tight a55!
