According to what I remember from school, the answerers are right, it was the Soviet Union. As they were a big country with lots of territory to cover, they had thousands of soldiers more than other countries who frankly, died more because of the terrible weather and hunger and not because of the war itself.

According to this chart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties#Casualties_by_country ), the Soviet Union lost 23,500,000 and China lost 20,000,000. This includes military and civilian casualties.
