Definitely Billy Joel. He is much more talented, in my opinion. He writes his own songs, sings, and accompanies them on the piano. His lyrics are very meaningful.

: )

Some of his best songs include: Just the Way You Are, Honesty, Movin' Out, Only the Good Die Young, Piano Man, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, and We Didn't Start the Fire

I'd go with Billy Joel. I think he's continued to make relevant music for longer. If you've checked out Paul Simon's last album, it's a forced "modern" sounding record, that just manages to sound out of touch. Most of Paul Simon's best work was done while in a group, whereas, Billy Joel has managed to stay solo most of the time (forgetting his dueting tour with Elton John.) That said, when Simon is on, it's hard for Billy Joel to touch him. I don't think that You May Be Right will ever stack up to Bridge Over Troubled Water.

I typically will listen to Billy Joel more and he just had so many hits and his music is mostly all just feel-good music to listen to.

Paul Simon is an amazing musician, however, and I don't know why I don't often think of listening to him (or have too much of his music). He can work in so many different genres and is a really versatile musician, which I wouldn't really think as much of Billy Joel, and has done so much from the Simon & Garfunkel days, to solo and beyond.
