Maybe it's because our bodies are temples for God, and the piercings and tattoos are false gods.
Why tamper with something made in God's image?
I try to keep an open mind, but it is not Western tradition to tamper with tatoos and piercings that distort the natural body. Tolerance is not acceptance, but avoids unneccessary conflict.

This is mostly a phenomenon in Anglo-Saxon western cultures and I often wonder whether the media has a lot to do with perpetuating the myth that tattoos and piercings are 'bad'.
When you look at movies: the bad guys or girls (the ones the film or TV show portray as bad) have tattoos and/or piercings.
The fear of such people comes from the association - that is - how you envisage your interaction with such people will be (based on your experience). If your only experience is the association you've been taught in the media then it's understandable how you might label people in this way.
One of the other people answering this question rightly explains that in other cultures tattoos and piercings are an integral part of the culture and aren't associated with being or being perceived to be bad.
The other part of your question is around why businesses do not hire. I think there are a lot of people in our society who label people the same way you do - that people with tattoos and piercings are bad.
The nature of business is that it's done through interaction with other people. Businesses will want to find ways to make these interactions go smoothly, and will take into consideration what their customers will see as acceptable. For some businesses, tattoos and piercings may not be acceptable as it causes a barrier between the business and the customer.
It cannot be generalized however - think about a customer for a tattoo parlour or piercing studio if they walked in and nobody had a tattoo or piercing. Would you feel confident of their experience?

Ignorance is why they do not hire people with tattoos or piercings. Also could be appearance to other people like you. Could be bad for certain businesses. Many smart and decent people have tattoos and piercings. Most consider it a living art! Many people are intimidated by tattoos and piercing because television teaches people this. I have one and have a high profile job. But I do not go flashing it around work. Only when I am home or out with friends I do. I love it! It is a very personal thing, or should be. Took me 42 years to get one and I do not regret it. Do not be intimidated by it. It is just a personal art. Hope this helps.

blah blah blah it's a bunch of crap
I have 14 piercings and I want more
So because of that I'm a terrible person right...... ummm no
Many bussinesses don't hire people with piercings and tattoo because piercings and tattoo aren't professinal!
No matter what you say they aren't and I have piercings so I'm not some random close minded person saying that.
And to all this crap that people are saying " If god wanted you to have holes in your body he would have put them there" My view on that is if god didn't want peole to have any piercings why did he let a person invent piercings..
My grandma hated ALL of my piercings with a passion she told me all the time that I looked like a gypsie with holes in my face.
and if people with piercings and tattoos will burn in hell then I guess I'm gonna be burning in hell

Looking at someone and judging them for how they look, is sad. You can really miss out on someone who can teach you something about yourself!
I worked with a guy who had a Mohawk that was 18 inches high! His hair was coloured black, red, and blue. A bunch of piercings and tattoos, at first glance I was a bit frightened, as we passed each other, he said good morning and held the door for me. I got to talk to him the next day and learned a lot from him about my job. We worked in a call center together, for a major wireless provider. He helped me boost my sells, I helped him process calls more productively!

Many businesses don't hire many folks with tattoos because those customers think like you. They're close minded, and just because they don't look like you doesn't mean they're bad. Some folks do hire "those" folks but make them cover up.
Having ink or piercings is not bad. It's how that person wants to express themselves. I happen to think they're beautiful. Lots of folks with ink and piercings are not bad, if you gave them a chance you'd find they're actually just as interesting as you.
Do not judge unless you're judged.

Not bad people, but rather sad people. I am not talking of Maori or other ethnicitys that tattoo and pierce as part of their heritage. But there is nothing sadder than a man/woman with a stupid rose, or a sport team emblem tattooed permanently onto his/her flesh. Tattooing is no longer cutting edge, it jumped the shark the minute a rich suburban kid got a yin-yang tattooed on his neck. Loser.

It looks tackey. I agree, I have one tattoo but it is covered up. But Everyone hires someone who they think looks good to the public and will be a good example and assett to there business. Do not judge a book by it's cover BUT we ALL do.
