"The Rocket" will help the Yankees, but they will not win the divsion. They have no reliable rotation, and Rivera appears to finally be human. The Red Sox are a far better team and will get whatever they need at the trade deadline to stop the yanks division title streak.

I don't think the rocket alone can help the Yankees win the AL East. It's not just about addressing that 13.5 game defecit that they have against Boston. Their struggeling pitching also has to worry more about the other offenses in the division.
Toronto has a pretty good offense with a team that seems to be gaining some confidence back despite being hammered with injuries. Think about Wells, Thomas, and Rios, all have the ability to make you pay when the other guys get on base
Tampa Bay also among the league leaders in homeruns. Their offense with Crawford, Young, Upton and Baldelli is stacked for a young team.
You also have the Orioles offense who all ready took advantage of Yankee pitching staff earlier this season by winning 2 out of 3 in NY. NY won't come to Baltimore until June. The ball flies well in warm weather in Camden Yards. I would expect the Orioles homeruns and extra base hits to pick-up as June rolls in. Look at what happened to Joe Blanton of the A's on Sunday playing in Baltimore a in game where the temperature started at 94 degrees. 6 of the 8 runs he surrendered in his loss where generated off of 3 homers.
All in all I don't want to rule the Yankees out just yet since there is still a lot of time left, but they have a lot more issues to concern themselves with than one man even of Clemen's stature can fix by pitching every 5 games.

Nope...Roger Clemen won't help the Yankees. The Red Sox are up what 10-11 games now ...and the Yankees bullpen is way over used and all therestarters are hurt and banged up. The rocket will help them a bit but not enough to take the divison from Boston !!!

I don't think he will help that much. For one, he will only pitch every fifth day or so. The rest of the team will have to do it the rest of the time without him.
Reason 2: Will his special privileges create friction in the clubhouse?? With all the stars and big egos the Yankees have, I find it hard to believe there will be no problems.
Reason 3: Is the guy really still as good as he was?? He is getting older now, and he didn't exactly shut down that AA team he pitched against a few days back.

The Rocket will provide a boost, but the Yankees won't surge to a division title solely on the acquisition of Clemens. Clemens is one man, and it seems as if the last cogs of the dynasty are starting to rust. Jeter is doing a fantastic job offensively, but is heavily overrated on defense, and not the player he used to be, while Rivera seems to have finally lost his magic touch, returning to earth after a glorious decade of domination. If Rivera returns to form, Giambi puts up good numbers, A-Rod shows his early season hot streak was no fluke, and the Yankees milk good innings out of their bullpen and production from Cano and Abreu, they will win the division. But Clemens alone won't save them from mediocrity.

Even if he wins out for the rest of the season, it wouldn't help. He pitches every 5 days.. and he can only produce at most when he returns ( a probable return after his next AAA start ), probably 20 games or less... That can produce at most 15 wins? Roger Clemens is too old. Who would spend 28 mil on him.. only Cashman would.. its like he generates cash.. throwing in alot of money... into one person. Roger "Rocket" Clemens. Good luck Cashman, you'll relize how dumb that was to sign mr.rocket.

Nah The Red Sox Have too far a lead for THE ROCKET to get off the ground. Get over it Yankee Fans the Rocket can't even get launched in the minors. Hes too old. He has gotten hit pretty hard in his minor league starts whats going to happen when he faces major league hitters? Yes, he is Roger Clemens one of the most dominating pitchers of our era, but the minor leagues do not have the hitters of David Ortiz, Manny, Grady Sizemore, Gary Sheffiled, Maggs Ordoneze just to name a few.

Rocket is going to be a plus, but the Yankees need a lot more than just his great self to win this year. Still a long way to go, but that's some hole they're in.

No way to far out for one player to make a difference, if the whole team gets going they may have a chance.
And of course then everyone will say the Rocket saved the year which would be a lie.

he's one player and he only plays once every 5 days. It ain't enough. Good teams are eating up the Yankees - like the Angels sweeping them this weekend and Boston is on fire. Yes it is a long season but Boston has a tremendous early lead.
