cannot get that 1 1/2" nut off, guess its to plan B and get a strap wrench and wrench down the hub, to keep it from slipping, but my question would be : which way does the nut come of if i am looking from the front of the vehicle towards the engine?
that thing is just frozen on there big time, thought it would be an easy fix but we have struggled with it all day long.

any ideas to help?

thanks in advance...

are you talking about the fan clutch..... the big nut on the front of the water pump attached to the fan clutch.........first it turns clockwise so it tightens as the motor turns, second, go to the parts store and rent or buy a fan clutch removal/install tool, it will save your knuckles

Throw some cover on a 10-14" pipe wrench to avoid scarring. Lay it on it's back, and set the pulley into the jaws. lift the wrench to set the jaws and you'll have the floor as a back-up. Add 11/4" angled wrench, socket or GOOD channel locks. Lefty loosey, Righty tighty.

The question is, "Does that nut have to be removed to get the pump off?" I can't picture that particular set up in my head but you may be trying too hard. An inch and a half nut sounds like something that holds a pulley to the "accessory" and not the engine block. If you get the pump off and take it into any parts shop they have kits for removing these pulleys to transfer them to the new "accessory". Are you sure you are looking at the water pump?

something I have had to do that I dont recomend to reinstall is if one is stuck and you cant get it loose is to use a long drift punch and a 3 lb. hammer on the nut a tap or two later its loose dont be afraid to hit hard if you have to dont forget to put the belt back on it will help hold the pully and by the way it is righty tighty lefty loosee on that vehicle and if they are left hand treads it will say so on the top of the fan shroud hope this helps

Most fan hubs are left handed thread, be sure to use the proper wrench or you are asking for trouble!

right it relatively is a step via step on a thank you to re flow the pump is plenty much less complicated than tring to pull off the pulley plus it won't come off while it on the engine there is not any room for thr puller.
