So I bought an ATI Video Card for my DELL desktop. I open the thing up and come to find out that the port is backwards from what I need it to be? Is this a propriatery thing? The gold slots were also slightly different. The card fit in the slot when I took the face plate off and put the card in backwards, but the connection was slightly different. Is there anyway to get by it? The ATI is an 128 pro All In Wonder AGP. Is there a cable and box that can turn it into an external video card with the cord connecting from the card directly into the AGP?

No. You cannot change the AGP port on the motherboard. It is possible that you new ATI video card is a PCIexpress card or that the slot in your motherboard is a PCIexpress slot.

Go to Dell's website, enter in your SERVICE TAG number and you can find out exactly what is in your Dell computer, then buy the exact slot type for the computer.

Check under the WARRANTY area after entering in the service tag and you should be able to see something about ORIGINAL SYSTEM CONFIGURATION on the Dell site.

An AGP port is a fixed slot on your motherboard that is dedicated to your graphic output. It cannot be changed.
If you are unable to use that model of card with your computer it may mean that your computer uses a PCI slot instead of AGP. Moreover, it could mean that your computer does not use either of the two and you are simply plugging the card into a regular PCI slot.

You should list the model of your desktop for further assistance. By listing the model of the desktop any experience user can identify the compatibility issues you are confronted with and resolve them quickly.

Enjoy your computer.

An AGP card will always fit in an AGP slot, unless the slot is a PCI Express.
