It depends on what you studied. There are associates degrees that grant (in addition to the degree) certification in certain fields. An associates degree proves that you have worked hard for an additional two years beyond high school.

It would seem that everyone you know has an associates degree from liberal arts colleges and probably just took liberal arts classes. My daughter went to The Fashion Institute of Technology in NY and came out with an AS and got a job making $37, 000 but she specialized in textiles and worked for a textile firm. So it would depend on the degree, If you got a AS degree in something like psychology you would be able to get an entry level job in a Social service agency but you would have to get your BA at the least to move up in your profession.

Not all associate degrees are worthless. Many technical positions award associate degrees and with just that you have a high earning potential since you will graduate with a real skill. These areas would include Culinary arts, automotive technician, ems/paramedic, aircraft maintenance, welding, auto body, etc.

A good welder can rake in more than $60k How is that supposed to be worthless?

Associates degree is good, but finish your bachelors as well. That will give you the best chances of landing a great job. Also, start working- even if only part-time - in the field you're interested in as soon as possible. It all adds up on the resume.

Now.........if your an accounting major you can find some decent work with Bach. However I look at it like this, If we both are interviewing for a job and I have a Bach, and you have an Associates on that premise alone that job is mine unless I'm a horrible interviewee. Associates means little to nothing, I compare it to GED..........seriously
