I've got my prom on friday. and i'm wearing a tux, but i didn't want to wear a bow tie, so i'm wearing a neck tie, which is normal. but instead of wearing a vest, i'm wearing a cummerbund. i dont know if i tuck my tie in the cummerbund, or let it hang out. i have a tie pin.

I have never seen a tie with a tux before. I would just go with the bow tie.

Neckties are OK for formal wear, but it has to match the cummerbund exactly. Do not tuck it into the cummerbund. That is way tacky! Just let it hang.

that's why you wear a vest with a regular tie.
regular tie = vest
cummerbund = bow tie
regular tie + cummerbund = dork
