I'm a recent college graduate and I need $1500 to pay my real estate broker. I never really had to withdraw from anything besides an ATM before, and it seems like $1500 from a branch which isn't affiliated with my bank is either not possible or costly. Is it possible for me to take my money out for free, if not what's the cheapest way? Thanks for the help.

you could go to a check cashing place (don't recommend that, though)

here's what i'd do: most atms let you take out about $300 max. you drive from atm to atm (even if they're not your branch) until you have the full amount. you'll probably have to pay some atm fees, but they probably won't be more than $10-$15 total.

i knew someone that had to get $1000 bail money to get someone out of jail on a sunday morning when banks were closed, and this is what they did.

There's most likely a limit on how much you can withdraw from your account through an ATM each day - $500 or less is common. Going to different ATM's, even at different banks, won't get you around the account daily limit - after you've taken that much out, further attempts to withdraw will be rejected.

Why in the world would you give a real estate broker $1500 cash, anyway? Write a check if your account is a checking account. If it isn't, then he'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

How did you get through college and not know to write a check rather than give that amount of cash to someone?

To get that much money you would need to get it from your bank, a random bank will not cash a check for that dollar amount for you.

For that dollar amount I would recomend buying a cashiers check so you have a record of the payment and can prove you paid him what he has asked.

The problem with going to different atms and taking out $300 a shot is that most banks (who issue your atm card) put a cap on atm card use at $500/day, so you would only beable to do it once anyway.

PS it's not going to happen today anyway because banks re closed for memorial day.

Okay, just go to an atm at another bank and try your card there. There will be like a small surcharge of 4 bucks or something but hey, that's less than the gas money to drive out of town and find your bank...
