After an injury, his international career was put on hold. He made a comeback in Pakistan's 2005 tour of India scalping 5 wickets in the first innings. Since then, injury has seen him left out of the Indian Cricket team.

He has not been selected for the past 2 years because of having the one thing plaeguing Indian Fast Bowlers ie an injury.Also even after recovering he has been unable to prove his fitness and form and also due to the lack of proper oppurtunities that came his way.

Though Balaji got enough opportunities to cement his place in the Indian Team, he failed to capitalise these opportunities due to injuries time and again and has lost the favour of selectors.
