I have been out of highschool for 3 years but it sure does not seem it.?

I live in a really small town. I'm the really shy quiet girl who keeps to herself. My problem is people still seem to start rumors about me and basically hate me before they even know me. I don't go to parties hardly ever but there has been a couple rumors about me at parties doing all this stuff that never happened. Both guys and girls do this. I've had people call me all sorts of names and insult me whatever way they can. It's starting to become too much. I don't think there is anything wrong with me, I don't act weird and I don't think I'm goofy looking or anything. I was just wondering, after being out of highschool for 3 years why do people still seem to have the need to act liek that? I've never done anything to them, I'm just wondering why i seem to be a target. thanks in advance

From my own experiences, people make fun of others for ONE purpose ONLY - To make themselves feel better. They are insecure with their own lives, so they have to pick on you, to make themselves feel or look better (especially in front of others!)

Just remember, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with you or the way you live your life! I recently graduated college and have learned that it takes some people A LOT longer to grow up then others!! Even in college, the "jocks" still make fun of the "nerds" but more than likely, as you grow up, you lose contact with those people and never have to deal with them again!


Hope that gives you a little boost of confidence, and just remember, its NOT you, it's THEM!

Funny how you leave high school behind but you still fall into the same category you did when in school because of where you are.

The world is a big place full of all different kinds of people. Why not educate yourself and get the heck out of that place? You'll be much happier I am sure. But remember there are always going to be people who have something to say about you, it only has power when YOU allow it to. If you shrug off what these people have to say they'll eventually find something new to talk about...but I suggest relocation.

If your an attractive girl especially get used to it!!!, you would like to think that by the time people leave school that they would have grown up quite a bit wouldn't you? well unfortunately they dont, woman are still catty and the men still go around making up that they've had more to do with woman than they actually had, that woman probably being you!!! ive come to learn over the yrs that no matter how i try to counter this behavior from others people still talk, its a sad fact of life, i console myself with the thought that if their talking about me then their sparing someone else that maybe wouldn't deal with it as i do, because frankly i couldn't care less what these loosers think, if anything these days when i hear a rumour back about myself i give em something to talk about.

Well since you say its a small town maybe they just do it because there is nothing else to do! One thing's for sure, rumors will always be flying around. That's something that will never stop. Now if I were you I would just ignore all this s*it. As long as you and your family know its not true just ignore it! That's the best thing you can do. Enjoy life and live it to the fullest!

Sometimes people just find someone to pick on. It seems to be a very annoying and quite cruel part of human nature. People can sometimes be horrible in this way particularly in groups. Maybe they do this to you because you give them the impression that you do not know how to stand up for yourself. I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you, and I hope everything will get better for you soon.

Possibly because it is a small town, they took advantage of you this way in school and there's simply so few people that you're still an easy target for their immaturity.

i think that people are not secure w/ themselves so they find an easy target, like a shy person (i.e. you). they make this person seem worse than they are, to themselves. you really should not let it get to you, but i kno that it can be hard. mayb you should try to go on a vacation get away until ppl can move on and pick on something else.

sometimes really shy people are perceived as being snobs.

While it probably isn't true, they may think you feel you are better than they are.

3 years out of high school they should get over it!
