Well other than the obvious (the North won and the South lost, obviously the North would us it to their advantage) it created jobs, new innovations to speed up progress, economy recovered from the hit it took from losing half of the nation, it set up a similar infrastructure that North had, and so on.

Western expansion was a major cause of the War. Development of the West was a huge benefit to the national economy. The southern states had been stifling growth because they did not want more "Free" states in the Union.

The North and South had greatly conflicting views on trade with Europe. History shows the "Yankee" view of foreign trade to have been more successful than the passive attitude of the South.

A great deal of technology developed during the War (railroads, telegraph, machined parts, food canning, medical advances) was put to use in the Post-War period.

since so much was destroyed in the south...northerners flocked to the area to set up all manner of businesses ....goods came from the north....there was a lot of rebuilding to do and they needed just about every kind of supply.
