Mickey Mantle - The single greatest talent the game has ever known. Injuries kept him from breaking every record in the book. (12 American League Pennants & 7 World Series Championships)

Babe Ruth - Could easily have been elected into the hall of fame as a pitcher but his team needed his bat as well. Not until his 7th year in baseball did he become an every day player. Still considered the greatest home run hitter in baseball history even though his record has since been broken.

Derek Jeter - Clearly the greatest shortstop in Yankee history and a sure fire hall of famer. With a .318 lifetime batting average, he is well on his way to reaching the 3000 hit club before his career is over. Captain of the greatest professional sports franchise in the world with 4 WS rings.

Lou Gehrig - The Iron Man (2130 consecutive games). If not for a terminal illness he too would have reached 3000 hits and 500 home runs. Maybe one of the 5 greatest defensive 1B in history.

Joe DiMaggio - .325 lifetime hitter and famous for his 56 game hitting streak. In 13 seasons with the Yankees he played on 9 world championship teams.

1. Babe Ruth. He built the place. He brought us so much admiration and hatred at the same time. hense why you love a yankee or hate him.

2.Joltin' Joe- 56 game hitting streak. No one will ever touch it. He's an amazing person on an off the field

3. Derek Jeter- Yankee Captain. Is the best example of a "Yankee". He is critcized by the haters an proves them wrong. He helps out the team an can rebound quickly. it's very rare to see jeter in a slump

4.Marino Rivera. What other closer has shut down people like Rivera? In the postseason he is virtual lights out. He may be fading with age but you can not deny how incredible he has pitched in tough situations.

5. Lou Gehrig- Another great yankee. left his legacy an did outstanding things. You can't say enough about this guy. He has a disease named after him an helped america become aware.

I'm not even a Yankee fan, but you've got to admit they've had some fantastic players over the years.

(1) Ruth - Greatest player ever. Nuff said.

(2 ) Mantle - Tremendous combination of power, speed and defense. Was a DEVASTATING player for about 10 years.

(3) Gehrig - Greatest 1B of all time. Power, run production, average, on base percentage, citizenship. He was one of a kind.

(4) Berra - Greatest catcher of all time with the possible exception of Johnny Bench.

(5) DiMaggio - Another all-time great who missed prime seasons due to WWII and retired the moment his skills began to slip.

(Hon. Mention) Jeter - He's very close to making this list today. By the time he retires he will be solidly on it.

As an aside, guys like A-Rod and Clemens do not belong on this list since a vast majority of their careers were spent elsewhere. At least that's my opinion. :-)

Babe Ruth - No one else in baseball has been such a dominant hitter and such a great pitcher as well. (20 game winner and 700+ HR). The single greatest player ever.
Joe DiMaggio - A model of consistency (100+ RBI in 9 of his 13 seasons). 2200+ hits in only 13 seasons. Avg 35 K's a season (Adam Dunn had more in 2 years than he did his entire career)
Lou Gehrig - Power and avg. all combined into one. Career .340 hitter with damn near 500 jacks.
Mickey Mantle - 536 HR and 3 MVP awards. Above avg. outfielder and good lifetime avg. for a slugger.
Roger Clemens - 7 Cy Young awards, 340+ wins, 4600+ K, and two time 20 strikeout games like 14 years apart. Great
