I've wondered for years why many drivers will actually accelerate when a toll plaza was posted as approximately 2 miles away.
Why do they not slow down instead of going faster.I have seen a few fender benders due to this practice.

Why slow down at that distance?? If you're slowing down 2 miles before a toll plaza, YOU are the one causing problems!

Because everyone wants to be first. The more cars they pass the less they wait at the toll.
