I prefer a PC to a Mac, any day.

It depends on what you are comparing them against. If you want flexibility, then PC is the way to go. If you want simpler manageability, then a Mac is good.

The good thing about PC's is the magnitude of hardware and software available for them. Mac hardware options are very limited, but you do get a pretty reliable and wicked fast machine.

Mac desktops and laptops are more expensive than PC desktops and laptops, but as the above paragraph mentions, they are very reliable and powerful from the get-go.

Next to consider is choice of operating system. If you get a Mac, you can go with Mac OSX, some flavor of Linux, or Microsoft Windows. I have never really had any experience with OSX or Linux, but you do have a choice. For PC's you cannot load OSX on them, but you can put Linux or Windows. I cannot compare the operating systems here as I've only used Windows.

In terms of security, both Mac's and PC's are at great risk for viruses if they do not have Anti-Virus or a firewall software installed on them. People say that Windows has a greater chance of being infected, but the truth of the matter is that there is just a lot more people who use it than Mac people. As long as you keep them up to date and do not visit any questionable web sites you'll be fine.

Whew... that was a long answer.

It depends, do you want a working computer or a doorstop?
Although they are not sold as much, Macs are better, especially if you want to get into publishing or graphics.

I have used PC's myself almost exclusively, but only bought it because it was more affordable. With the annual cost of security software, time for downloads, cost of operating system upgrades every 3-5 years (where they hope you'll just buy another PC with more memory, etc to handle the newer software), it really adds up.

If you're used to PC's though, it is tricky getting around on a Mac.

PC's with the windows operating systems sell way better than the Mac, so what does that say for the Mac?
