y = (9x - 7)/4

2007-05-28 11:08:42 · answer #1 · answered by rick c 2 · 0 0

Add the 4y to the right and subtract the 7 to the left:

9x - 7 = 4y

Switch sides:

4y = 9x - 7

Divide everything by 4:

y = 9x/4 - 7/4, or y = 2.25*x - 1.75

i am assuming you don't need a numerical answer.

9x - 4y = 7; solve for y.

subtract the x term from both sides or add a -9x to both sides to isolate the y term.

9x - 9x -4y = 7 - 9x

OR

-9x + 9x - 4y = -9x + 7

you get:

-4y = 7 - 9x

OR

-4y = -9x + 7

it's just 2 different ways of writing the same thing.

now divide both sides by -4 to solve for y.

-4y / -4 = (7 - 9x) / -4

y = (7 - 9x) / -4

9x-4y=7
-9x = -9x

-4y=-9x+7
/-4= /-4(that is divide by -4 and on the right side make sure to divide everything by -4)

y = 9x/4 - 7/4

9x-4y=7 subtract 9x from each side
-4y=7-9x divide both sides by -4
y=9x/4-7/4 or
y=2.25x-1.75

9x-4y=7

-4y+9x-9x=7-9x

-4y=7-9x
-4y/-4= 9/4x-7/4

y=9/4x-7/4
