no it won't hurt the engine. this is the recommended weight oil from the factory specified to give you good engine protection and good gas mileage and engine emissions. you could use 10/30 it won't make a great deal of difference that you would notice anyway.

It seems like only yesterday that 5W30 oil was only suitable for temps below -20. However due to the extremely close tolerances in todays engines, that is the only oil to use. Since the car is a '99, there is probably enough wear on the parts that 10W30 would be alright.

If you only didit once i doubt it bcause i had a montecarlo and i always put 10 30 and it ran great

no it wont hurt it.... any oil can be used from 30 wt to 20/50wt 10w30 and 10w40 are like standard for every car... just try and use a good oil and try and stick with that oil when you can..changing it offen is better than every once in a while
