How do different sized alloy wheels affect quality of drive?

I want put some 19"s on my bmw 318is e36 but somebody told me that will no be good for driving (too big)

They might rub and slow down the spedometer and affect the ABS brakes. I use tire rack dot com to see what fitment actually looks like and I call to ask what will work.
