They work great I have had one sense they came out and use it for everything even chip bags and stuff like that stuff you don't eat all of it one time cereal crackers and yes meat fish etc.... even if you get big cans of fruit cocktail freeze it in plastic containers and then vac it stay good for ever and that's just some stuff you'll like it

I don't know about a "Mini" sized unit... but my brother has the standard sized unit and has CERTAINLY paid for the cost of the unit. He also buys meat in bulk and freezes it in those vacuum bags. The meat then is good for MONTHS.
It all depends on YOUR dining/shopping/cooking habits I suppose.
