I have Verizon with an LG phone, and when I get a call I have the option to "Answer" or "Ignore" the call (which sends the caller to my voicemail).
Because I have a flip-phone, I had to disable the auto-answer feature so that I could open the phone to hit the "Ignore" button. You could also try to hit the END key and see what happens (test it by calling your cell from another phone).

Hold down the 1 key while off the call to go straight to voicemail. Depending on the phone you can "conference call" and call your voicemail while the other person is on the line.

If you have the flip open and someone calls, press the button that says ignore.
