I am 17 years old and in high school. I've been researching things to make me stand out on college applications. I often see "start a business". I was wondering, if I started a website online, and started selling my used cd's, books, movies etc...is that legal? Or is it illegal to resell them in that way. Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

You can sell anything that you rightfully own. People sell books, cds, dvds, etc on ebay and such all the time. Might be cheaper to make an ebay store there then to start up a whole new website, but you absolutely can sell those things.

Good luck with it! I think it's amazing that you are doing that to look good on a college app. Wow. Nicely done! :)

You should check out Half.com. It is a division of E-bay, but they only sell books, CD's, video games and game consoles. It's not an auction so you don't have to worry about how long your books stay listed. They only make money when you sell an item and they are a penny profit business. Try it, you'll love it.

Yes you may start an on-line business selling used books and old CDs. However, you'll need someone age 18 years and above as join partners because all sales profits are subject to taxes.
