Yes, of course they do in that lousy division. Have you seen what the Brewers have done in the past week? They are not for real. The other teams--the Cubs, Cardinals and Reds are all playing terrible also, and Pirates aren't very good neither. Plus if you are an Astros fan, you should know that they have struggled the first half of the season and even into July and August the past few years, and have been able to turn it around. They have a certified ace in Roy Oswalt, and when Jason Jennings gets healthy, that's a good #2 starter and they just need to start hitting. I think they have a decent chance to turn it around. It's a long season.

Of Course. They are struggling right now. But, Jennings is coming back this week. Berkman is hitting the ball solid more often now. Carlos Lee is a monster. Hunter Pence may be the real thing after all. Their hitting should come together nicely once they figure out their 3B situation.
Losing Clemens hurt a little, but if Jason Jennings comes back at full strength he is a better fit then Andy Petitte ever was. Roy Oswalt is Cy-Young contender every year. I'm not sure why they picked up Woody Williams, but I gotta' believe he isn't as bad as he has looked so far this year. Samson & Albers are solid young starters at the end of the rotation, who will only get better. W/those two & Wandy Rodriquez they should be able to find 2 decent 4 & 5 starters.

All that said, At least right now, the NL Central is easily the worst division in baseball, so every team in it has a chance if they play anywhere close to solid & get hot late.

Mathematically, yes.

Realistically, no. Garner still gets the least from his assets, Biggio's counting toward 3000 but killing the offense (.280 OBP), Berkman's sleepwalking, the pitchers are throwing meatballs, the bullpen pours gas on any fire... yecch. Pence is a bright ray of hope (not nearly enough) and Lee is, so far, living up to his contract. But even in this lousy division, they're not taking any advantages, only giving them away.

The only thing that they have going for them is the weakness of the division. The Brewers are falling and so is even one else in the division. The thing that is really hurting them is their starting pitching. With Clemens not there or Andy P. They have basically nobody.

no not really. especially if they have to rely on sampson and williams as starters in the rotation.

then there's lance berkman who as of right now couldn't hit a donkey standing still. BUT don't worry, even though pettite and clemens left for the yankees-at least they aren't doing much to help the yanks win and in that you can have some sort of peace.
