Kovalam is a lovely little beach resort a short-ish bus ride away.

Don't bother with the zoo - last I heard it's not exactly in good nick.

Padmanabhaswami temple..
Ponmudi - (3 hours drive)
Padmanabhapuram palace (2+ hrs drive on kanyakumari route)

And Kovalam Beach
