You must spend your money for the best brand. Windows is good.
As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now.
I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop.
On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.

Hello, I have both mac and pc at home, I love both system. It is always hard to make a decision for a computer. It also depends how much money do you want to spend. I have great information for you:
Note: you may already know, apple computers give you flexiblity to run both apple and windows under the same umbrella, you need to install parallels, you can get more information:
http://www.parallels.com/
If you play heavey graphic games, you may like to read this:

You can visit the following web site for some reviews:

Top 5 gaming computers:

This may also help you and give you a clear picture of the difference between Apple and Microsoft:
"Which way is better to go: a Microsoft Windows-based laptop or an Apple laptop that can also run Windows?" -
This is a question many users face when looking for a new computer. Now that Macs include Intel processors - the same ones found in the majority of Microsoft Windows-based PCs - it's even harder to choose between the two types of systems.
The right tools for the right job.
The first thing you should decide is how you're going to use your computer. While both Windows PCs and Macintosh computers can do most tasks the other can - such as email, Web browsing, and word processing - each has its own areas of specialty.
Although Macs can now run Windows natively (from a separate partition on your hard drive using Apple's free Boot Camp software), if you're planning on running a lot of Windows-only software, you might be better off with a PC. First, there's the added cost of buying additional software for a Mac, such as the Windows operating system itself. And if you want to avoid rebooting to access Windows, you can run Windows within the Mac operating system (Mac OS X) with the help of third-party software, but you'll get somewhat slower performance than when running Windows natively on your Mac or on a PC.
For gaming enthusiasts Windows PCs have a clear edge. They have the best selection of gaming titles, as well as the best selection of graphics cards for the latest cutting-edge games.
If you're a multimedia aficionado, who likes to work with music, photos and video, Macs are the preferred choice of hobbyists and many professionals. The iLife suite of multimedia applications is included with every Mac, so you can get started right away. Macs also have the benefit of being less likely to be infected with viruses and other malware.
Other factors to consider.
Which platform are you used to, and which do your family and friends use? It's easier to use a familiar operating system, and if you run into trouble, being able to ask your family or friends for help is a big plus.
Cost may also affect your decision. While Macs of similar specifications are comparably priced to their PC counterparts, the entry-level prices for PCs are lower.
Since laptops are engineered to such tight tolerances and often face demanding conditions, you may also wish to purchase the Product Service Plan, allowing you to spend less time worrying about your computer and more time enjoying it.
Good Luck!

Fr an inexpensive, but reliable laptop, look into HP. for an extremely nice one, get a MacBook Pro (or go light and get a regular MacBook). My personal recommendation is Windows, especially with HP (HP, Compaq) or Dell. Apple is not my thing, but you may be able to visit a Circuit City, Best Buy, or American TV and try out various laptops

well i guess it depends what ur major is . I suggest A macbook cause u can still run Windows thru Parallels or Bootcamp. And plus macs look so much cooler than PCs. OS x is just as reliable, if not more so that Windows.
Well actually Bravo, Core 2 Duo is 2 64 bit Pentium m processors on top of one another on a single socket

Depends on what you want it for. Apples are better for stuff for media and other stuff. They both can run microsoft office but Windows is better if you want to download special programs because obscure programs are not always able to be run by an apples.

Sometimes as was the case with my college, they had a student discount program of like 10% and the kicker was that the IT dept. would only fix that brand of computer!
I'd personally get a win xp operating system casue Vista apparently has alot of crashes and people have given it very bad reviews!
Definetly get something with a dual core processor for amd
for intel make SURE its core duo what there dual core is , is a cheapo- 2 regular processors placed side by side!
Good Luck

it just depends on what you like and also what your major is.
Apples are great with graphics and anything in the arts... while pc's are better with programing and the such.
I run a mac, but previous to college i was running pc.
I love my mac more than anything and i recommend it, but there are some diehard anti-mac people that you'll encounter. I find it much more user-friendly than a pc.
It's just up to you to try them both out and see waht you like .
