I know that is a dumb question( you would think), but I have been to doctors about it and they say it's normal to pass clots, however, they seem to look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them how big they are. My periods keep getting worse every month. I have been on different birth controls, pills, IUD, all of it . nothing helps! I now have terriable acne on my face all the time(didn't always have it). I'm 29 and have two kids, I don't know what to do anymore..for the first 3 days of my period I can't leave the house because I bleed so bad. I have awfull PMS the week before I start...does anyone know what causes this and what I should do?

I am no longer on birth control and the IUD fell out after having it in for 7 months. it was actually intangled in a large clot. also it is my gyn that told me this is normal.

I have several of those symptoms and I was just diagnosed with PCSO. Look it up and read some about it. Tell your Gyno. you are concerned and if they don't give help, find another one who will. It can be so hard to live like that believe me I know. The bleeding makes you feel horrible and like crying all the time. Support groups are helping me know I am not alone in all this. Best of luck

From the knowledge that i have it is normal to pass small clots during periods because as soon as blood is exposed outside of the blody it starts to clot.
Its the same with nose bleeds, its common for clots to emerge during nose bleeds because of the exposure outside of the vessels, if they are very very large you should go back to your doctor and keep going until the refer you onto somoene.
At the end of the day clots are better out than in, im sure its nothing to worry about if you are worried see someone to put you mind at rest.
You could also do some reading on it from the internet or health books are the library or leaflets that you can find ad the doctors, it may be that your hormones are inbalanced cauing you spots and you pms, this could be easily fixed.
But like i said keep going to see your doctor until they refer u on, sometimes they need a kick in the bum to get the started on making referals and if you go and go they'll do it in the end =)

Good lck with everything xx

Hi there , i really feel for you here , your docs dont seem to be very sympathetic.
Im not a doctor , but i had/have endometriosis that resulted in a hysterectomy , howeveer there are many thingss you can try before you get to that , cant you just go to your doctors and simply ask to be referred to a gynaecologist ?
I used to be on for up to 10 days and had to wear 2 night time pads on top of each other , and theyd be done in a hour , pain and exhaistion was phenominal!!!
I was living off hardcore painkillers, andpassing all manner of things.
It doesnt just have to be that , it could be an infection or something your womb is trying to expel, on the other hand your uterus lining could just have gottena bit bulky and uneven ...as i was once told , and they can solve that with a d n c as we call them here.
With endometriosis things just continued to get worse , and i always had acne too
Clindamyacin i think it is called as a topical solution is the only thing that ever worked my whole life for the acne so on its own thats good.
I am now a part of a yahoo group called hormonally unbalanced and they advocate use of a natural progesterone cream , although i havent tried it they seem to be having marvellous results with it and it can be used for that kind of thing , however id get a proper diagnosis first.
Oh and to add i didnt actually have it diagnosed until i was 34 even though they haqd looked for it before as i didnt always have those problems , it appeared ot get worse after my pregnancies too , although some say pregnancy can cure/ease it ...not for me...
Anyway , i sincerely hope you get something sorted some time soon , i dont envy you just now , best of luck , just try to be assertive and rather than ask for a solution , ask for and appointment with your gynaecologist
best of luck....

Hi Tabby - nope, not normal! If the clots really are this big then (gross as it sounds) Id actually collect one in a container and present it to a medical person, either the GP or at A&E. You must be exhausted from this! Find another GP if this on isnt working on getting to the bottom the problem and good luck xx

You would do well to listen to Dr Frank on here- if anyone knows he does. I agree with him- it is not normal for menstrual blood to clot- you need to see a different doctor and insist on seeing a specialist. To have a problem like this is very tiring and it sounds as if something else needs medical attention sooner rather than later.

Are you on the injection,as when i had it,i got the same thing and the doc said that it was because my blood was not clotting properly(sounds odd,but thats what he said),it could be dangerous,i would go to the family planning clinic and see what they have to say as they are more skilled in matters of the downstairs dept.also there is a cream that they can prescribe,i cant remember the name but it sound japanese(for your face).
Or you could try a cotton wool ball with a tiny bit of almond oil mixer on it and rub it on your face,it seems odd but i had the same problem,it doesnt work overnight, but it helps no end

You should try and get to the doctor, I get blood clots rather big sometimes but never that big. My cramps are always so bad, I had to sit out of my GCSE Music lesson to sit in the toilet and cry until the bell went so I could go home. But I really think you should try and get a doctor, If you think you can wait until a better time, unlike 4am then try that. If not try and get to the doctor.

Your question takes me back. I was exactly like your description. After a long period of time, when all sorts of things had been tried, I eventually had a hysterectomy. I can honestly say it was one of the best things I have ever done. It changed my life. I had been depressed, with an extremely low blood count, and always tired. I already had two children and did not want any more, so it was a good solution for me. Good luck

Maybe Danndie has a point. I also have polycystic ovaries and symptoms are similar. I've been told it's more of a condition rather than an illness and has to be lived with. (Oh what's the betting the scientist studying that was a man). By the way your avator shares my real name, I don't often meet others with the same name. Take care. xx

Menstrual blood does not clot so I find it difficult to understand that doctors have reassured you! large clots should result in a gynaecology referral. I would go back to your GP and request this.
