I tried to convert to NTFS with no success. My computer still froze up. So I bought and installed the whole program of XP Home, still had freeze up problems. NOTE: It appears to have partition in my "C" drive. Can someone help me resolve my problem? Should I format my "C" drive which I have fear of doing.

First, you have HOW much RAM? I don't believe it! It sounds like a you are giving the HD size.
Next, was ME pre-installed? If so you MAY have a "hidden" partition with the ME "repair" files which could be causing the problem.

You should have downloaded to CD or an external drive ANY and ALL files you want to keep.

Use a DOS program to find out what partitions are on the HD, and delete them if there is more than just the "primary" partition. (that will get rid of ALL the "hidden" stuff.) I would delete them all and start over!

Next, using DOS, enter "format /mbr" (This will "clear" the Master Boot Record.)

NOW set your BIOS to boot to CD before HD and put your XP disc in and restart. (This SHOULD bring up theXP install program)

Personally, I would use the DOS program to put at least 3 partitions on the HD if it is 20GB or larger BEFORE loading XP, "Primary" of 5GB for the OS ("C"), "extended partition" for the rest with 2+ logical drives, at least 1 for DATA and 1 for APPLICATIONS.
I would then load the OS on "C" and EVERYTHING else that does NOT HAVE to load on "C" on another drive, usually "applications". NOTE: To save files to your data drive you would need to use "save as" rather than "save"

THEN after loading I would make a full system backup to a "backup" folder on the "data" drive. Update backups regularly.
That way IF you have a problem with the OS, you can "clean-up", and if necessary reformat the "C" drive without losing anything.

Hope this helped.
