most likely a constusion. Problem is there is very little space for swelling to go when you hit your head. Thats why some people end up getting a hard bump on there head. You hit your head, it bruises a bit, and then because it has nowhere to go it hardens.
After the swelling has stopped it will stop hurting. Make sure though there is not a soft spot where you hurt your head. Make sure there is not yellow fluid coming out of your ears or nose. Make sure you do not have any vision, hearing, or balance problems. If you have any of the above, get to a doctor soon.
Also, don't take asprin as it will increase swelling.

Put some ice on it, you've probably just got a lil bruising under the skin, or maybe a cut. Don't worry to much, it's just still tender it sounds like. If you start forgetting things, experience severe diziness or loss of sight, contact emergency services right away or have a friend drive you to the ER. Other than that unlikely event, you're in the clear!

well... it is a very good thing that it swelled up. The non-bruising really is nothing to be concerned about. If the pain does not go away in another week or so consult your doctor immediately. I hope it starts to feel better soon. Good Luck!

You do have a bruise you just can't see it. The fact that it swelled means that you didn't do any real damage. It will probably take another week or so for the pain to go away.

It could be bruised even though you can't see it. Have you tried any ice packs? Alternate 30 minutes with ice, then 30 without. It certainly couldn't hurt to have your doc take a look at it. Good luck.

I will probably hurt for a while. What you have is a contusion that has formed under the skin. Even though a bruise is not visible, it is still there. Be patient. It will eventually resolve.
