I've included visual aids! How fun! Anyway, ladies (and gents, feel free to throw your 2 cents in too) What are your thoughts on the two fellas below :
(sorry if the links don't work, this is my first attempt to do this on a mac)::

So...how do we feel? Is this the sign of a brave new world in which gender roles will be thrown off, swapped, mingled, and re-created to whatever the individual wants...or are they just some bleeding poofters? Shag worthy? Freaks that would have been stoned in a more sensible time? Appealing to women...or not?

I picked these two because, in England, they're kind of considered the it "metro" celebrities at the moment. Although, to be honest, I did pick the glamiest photos I could find of them (for those curious, the first one is Noel Fielding who's on a TV show called "The Mighty Boosh" and the second is Russell Brand, a talk show host and stand up comedian.

The second one was all right I suppose....hmmmm ...those eyes. LOL! Wasn't he on the British Music Awards? He's a really quick witt! Brilliant.
Men and women can use their cloths to express themselves and so what. As long as we can be flexable enough to dress for the occassion...oh rot who cares...lol. There is nothing wrong with taking good care of yourself but for man or women obsession to extreme is not attractive.
The trouble is that not enough people would think for themselves anyway, just slaves to fashion regardless.
Enjoy life!

Not appealing to this middle aged woman, but yummy for younger women.
It's all a play on the inherent bisexuality in all of us.
It's also not a Brave New World thing.
You know, Byron and Shelly(poets) were very Femmy for their time. Some historians believe that they were also lovers.
Presently, adolescent lasts many years longer than it used to.
You could arguably say that many of the 30 year olds living with their parents and playing Metroid have not yet come of age.
In my pre-adolescent years, the posters on my wall were of Femmy guys like Bobby Sherman, Davey Jones and Michael Jackson (yes ma'am, that Michael Jackson).
Then came the Back Street Boys, etc.
Later on, we had Goth Femmy guys like Alice Cooper, then Marilyn Manson.
For young girls not yet comfortable with the opposite sex, a guy that looks non-threatening and irresistibly cute is a safer option.
It's all psychology and marketing.
It's a dynamic combination.
Good luck
Yes, I forgot Bowie.
Still as hot and appealing as ever after all these years.
Yum!
He is in his 60s now.
I think his appeal is in his androgyny.
When he first came on as Ziggy Stardust, he created a stir like Elvis did!

LOL...I guess I'm just not getting it. I did always find it somewhat sexy to have a guy wear black nail polish, though. I don't why, I guess he seems "openminded" or something. I'm not too wild about the "metrosexual" thing, though. If a guy uses "products" on his skin or in his hair, I'd really rather not know. They should certainly feel free to express themselves by how they dress, but I'd rather see a guy in jeans and a t-shirt, personally.
EDIT: Ah, I think Croa has it nailed. The "femmy" look is very appealing to young women who are just beginning to look at men in a romantic way - they aren't as threatening.

EWWWWW those guys are soooo gross!
I think it's a combination of:
a) women and gay men are slooooowly being viewed less as inferior, so it's becoming okay for men to adopt traditionally "female" traits
b) people have more disposable income
c) women are now able to be choosy regarding a mate, so men are under pressure to look good
d) Companies have run out of options of any more products to sell to women (labiaplasty is the latest thing - I mean, what else after that is there left to fix and make women feel bad about???), so they're heading into the untapped market of men
Okay, so those two particular guys are NOT hot, but I must say, I LOVE good clothes on a man. "The clothes make the man" - they really can turn an otherwise average looking man into the hotness.

Well, I'd say anything in moderation is good. In excess? Ugly.
I love to groom myself especially now that I have a pony tail (more like a pet to me now Heheh) and choose colours that does not offend people's taste but I guess metro sexuality is aimed at something more than that. I fancy whoever propagated the first idea to be a gay. I prefer to retain a good deal of that masculine element so that gals can feel the vibe. Metro? More feminist.

Okay first of all....though I was impressed that you provided us with visual aids I would have to say....those freaky looking girly boys hardly represent metro-sexuality, so for those of you who don't know any better....let me say this....
Alot of men consider themselves "Metro" under the following criteria (and trust me they don't look like those men)!
Metros....take really good care of their physical appearance, they get manicures, pedicures, facials, they spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, every hair is in place, they wear very nice clothes...they are as concerned with the way look as females. Many of Hollywood's young - middle age men qualify as metro, and metro is not a pre curser to being gay.
Having said this....personally...I love well dressed well cared for, clean cut men, BUT....I love masculinity in a male, so for me effeminate doesn't work at all, and I do not like sharing my cosmetics!

look more like metro-gnomes than metro-sexpots to me. Think they oughta be put in burlap bags and sold on the jackass futures board as out of style before they got stylish.
Or just put some rocks in the bag with their contrived screw-the-world-posing mock-grubby Goblin asses and pitched spoiled-suburban-snot river.

I don't agree with you ... those ARE NOT metro-sexuals!!!
Metro Sexuals are very manly, but are considerate enough to have HIGH standards of personally hygiene, and don't look like they just rolled out of bed!!! They will wash that gray right out of their hair, and use sunscreen daily to avoid wrinkles ... they've matured to figure out the right balance of clone (not too little ... not too much). They'll notice and fix any spots on their cloths, and have polished shoes.
Metro Sexual is a good old city boy who wants to be noticed by women instead of repulse women!!!

Are you kidding?
pic one is wearing bad-taste leathers and head-phones! YIKES!
pic two looks skinny, better dressed and a little dirty! YECH!
I rather like metrosexuals, doesn't mean I'm looking for heroin addicts, '85 throwbacks or dirty vampires!
You're still trying to figure out what a metro really is! KEEP LOOKING!

Neither. I think people should be able to act or dress or whatever however they want, but I prefer a man who is a tad bit masculine.
