You are what your record says you are - Bill Parcells. So, no the Phillies right now are not the best team in baseball, they are hot, no doubt, but they still are behind the Mets and the Braves. Mind you, I am a Phillies fan and will want them to be the best team in baseball, since there are still over 100 games left in the season, there is still time for them to be the best team in baseball at the end. The Phillies weakness is the bullpen, so if they are serious, pretty soon they should start going around teams falling out of contention and inquire about closers. Maybe somebody by Al Reyes of the Devil Rays, that has 13 saves with a really bad team, might be available for the right price. Jose Valverde of Arizona as 18 saves in the 29 wins of the Devil Rays, Reyes as 13 for the 20 wins of the Devil Rays: 65% (13/20)for Reyes, 62% (18/29) for Valverde, so Reyes is slightly better.

Mets/Phillies Comparison
1B: Ryan Howard > Carlos Delgado
2B: Chase Utley > Jose Valentin
SS: Jimmy Rollins < Jose Reyes
3B: Greg Dobbs < David Wright
LF: Pat Burrell < Moises Alou
CF: Aaron Rowand < Carlos Beltran
RF: Shane Victorino = Shawn Green
Ace: Cole Hamels > Tom Glavine
2: Freddy Garcia < El Duque
3: Jamie Moyer < Jon Maine
4: Adam Eaton < Oliver Perez
5: Jon Lieber > Jorge Sosa
closer: Brett Myers < Billy Wagner (NO DOUBT ABOUT IT Wagner is better than any closer the phillies could throw at him)
and ofcourse
Mets Bullpen >>>>>>>>> Phillies Bullpen (Phillies bullpen is the worst ! they wont make it anywhere with that kind of pitching in their bullpen)

Well, you do make a good comparison between the Phillies and Mets. And, on paper, the Phillies do have a better team. But the Mets know how to win ball games. Jose Reyes is the cornerstone of that team, even without him they are a good team. But Reyes just gives them that 'edge'.
Are the Phillies better than the Braves? When the Phillies get hot and they got their stuff together they are, they can contend with any team in baseball, because they have all the weapons.
The Phillies have speed, power, and great defense.
So, I would have to say the Phillies are not the best team in the NL East.

In my opinion: Absolutely not. It is not because I am a Mets fan, but they are the 3rd maybe second best next to the Braves because they are in 3rd place in the NL east, and they are 3 games out of the wild card, unless they get hot and the Mets start struggling there is no possibility of winning the division. You would need Ryan Howard to start being more productive (which he is) and Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins are having a pretty good season so I would give them a chance to win the division. They are also under .500 in the east so they need to improve there at 12-15 but thats not hard to overcome
P.S. kudos to Jamie Moyer 44 years old and counting

1.) Atlanta
2.) Florida
3.) New York
4.) Philadelphia
5.) Washington
The Phillie's-You have to look at the whole year. For The Phillie's just to get over 500 they had to play 700 ball. That usually equates to a 500 finish or less
The Marlins are traditionally a slow starter then make their move after the all-star break. They have solid pitching and fielding so expect them near the top at the end
Mets -have a good team but not great. If Pedro comes back healthy they have a shot otherwise 3rd pl is my pick
Atlanta- has the best team and they know how to win on the road. They will win around a 100 gms because they rarely lose more then 2 gms in a row
Nats- too young and unpredictable. Expect 90-95 loses

The Phillies are NOT the best team in the NL East. That distinction would go to the Mets. The Phillies have a lack of pitching and Ryan howard has been having serious problems hitting the ball this year. Bretty Myers going down leaves them without a closer, and remember how reliable Gordon was.....yeah dont think so.

Delgado is a pro hitter where as we have yet to know if Howard is a flash in the pan, plus howard is lazy and strikes out wayy too much.

Reyes EASILY over rollins, u see the defense and the OBP for those guys?
David Wright at 3rd over whoever the phils have lol.
Alou matches up with Burrell equally.

The Mets are the best team. The Mets already have 32 wins and the season isn't even one-third over. Their pitching gets better, and they already have the best bullpen. Mets win 100+ something the Phillies can't do. The Mets win the division by 10-12 games.

The Phillies have made me tear my hair out for so long I don't have any hair left.
They lack 2 things. Consistency and killer instinct.
When they're "hot" they can beat anybody. (They just overhauled Atlanta) when they're cold, they just can't do anything right.
And, late in the season, instead of winning 8 of 10 to open up a lead, they end up losing 8 of 10 to fall out of the race.
To win, a team must be consistent. That, the Phillis are not.
