so the total weight is 21.8
so Chris 5.8/21.8 * $124.20=$33.04
Suzi 3.4/21.8*124.20=19.37
tony has the rest so 124.20-(33.04+19.37)=71.79

I won't give you straight up answers, so that hopefully by doing this once you will get the hang of it and remember how to:
Add the three separate weights together -- 5.8 + 3.4 + 12.6 -- that will give you the total weight.
5.8 / total weight = Chris' share
3.4 / total weight = Suzy's share
12.6 / total weight = Tony's share
multiply each person's share by the total price to get what they would each pay.

Total weight = Chris' part + Suzi's part + Tony's part
= 5.8 + 3.4 + 12.6 = 21.8
Percentages are:
Chris% = 5.8/21.8 = 0.266
Suzi% = 3.4/21.8 = 0.155
Tony% = 12.6/21.8 = 0.577
Amounts to pay are:
Chris$ = (0.266)($124.20) = $33.04
Suzi$ = (0.155)($124.20) = $19.25
Tony$ = (0.577)($124.20) = $71.66

add up all the masses:
5.8 + 3.4 + 12.6 = 21.8
next you will find the cost per pound:
$124.20 / 21.8 = 5.69725 (to be more accurate)
so the cost per pound is ~ $5.70
multiply the cost per pound with each person's share of the package:
chris's share = $5.70 X 5.8 lbs.
so he will pay ~ $33.06
suzi's share = $5.70 X 3.4 lbs.
so she will pay ~ $19.38
tony's share = $5.70 X 12.6 lbs.
so he will pay ~ $71.82
to check if this is correct, add up the dollar amount for each person to see if it totals approximately $124.20.
$33.06 + $19.38 + $71.82 = $124.26
so this is correct, since we rounded the cost per pound to $5.70.

If they pay according to weight, then
total weight = 21.8 lbs
Chris pays 5.8 / 21.8 * 124.2 = 33.04
Suzi pays 3.4 / 21.8 * 124.2 = 19.37
Tony pays the rest = 71.79
Some of the above answers demonstrate why you shouldn't round off too early while solving a problem.

I have a headache right now, so I don't want to do the math, but add the total weight of the package first. Then find the percent that each person's weight is of the total. Then find that percent of the total price, and assign them to the correct person.
You're welcome. =)

Total weight is 5.8+3.4+12.6 = 21.8
Chris should pay (5.8/21.8)($124.20) = $33.04
Suzie should pay (3.4/21.8)($124.20) = $19.37
Tony should pay (12.6/21.8)($124.20) = $71.79
