Hi,

I wrote a personal check to an individual a while back (nearly 1 year) and I see that it still hasn't been cashed. Is there a "shelf" life on personal checks? Am I still responsible for this?

Thanks!

Judy's answer is correct, most banks will not cash checks after 6 months. However, there is no law that checks are not valid after any set amount of time. This is purely an industry practice.

Checks are generally considered stale dated after six months, and banks won't cash them.
