It didn't happen before? I seem to remember it being that high a couple times before, in summertime also.
Demand is up - people are eager to bit@h about the prices, but aren't willing to change their habits and conserve. Notice the news reports that people traveling this weekend are UP slightly from prior years. And look around - how many SUV's, pickups, and other vehicles are on the road that don't get good mileage?
And the refinery issue isn't BS. There are a ton of regulations that have been put on so companies can't build refineries easily. And you can't just pour crude oil into your gas tank.
And to those who say prices can't go much higher - have you checked out what Europeans are paying? And for that matter, what they've paid for many years?

the companies say they cant make it fast enough so if they raise the price thinking people will buy less is a crock if it was ten dollar a gal id still have to buy it to get where i need to be... a lot of people cant walk to where they work some could ride buses or with a friend but that don't work all that well Ive been driving over 30yrs and you know i still drive almost the same miles now as i did then about a tank or two a week gas was below 50 cent a gal and it did happen once in the 70's the gas crisis thsi is because of the war that is going plane and simple

Production can't go much higher, and there has been strong demand from India, China, and other emerging economies. Supply and Demand. If there's a steady supply, and more demand, people will buy less gas if the prices are higher. Production is expected to peak in the year 2008-2010, so if you are worried about gas prices now... well I'd invest in a Prius, they aren't going to improve.

I tend to think it's an inside job that works towards Bush and him getting money for every .50 cent it is raised.
Anyone agree that Bush is in on it?
