Can you find the password of other computer users?

Question

This may sound kind of odd, but once you've entered onto your computer through the hidden administrator account (holding F8 at startup) is it possible to find out the password of another adminstrator power account on the computer? This is a troubling security issue.

Its called cain and able. Get the one for XP. its the second link in the middle.

Its worked for me before and I used it at work when they lost an admin and needed password access for accounts. from windows logon to email.

who ever gave me the thumbs down, either doesn't understand the answer or windows well enough.
Oh, I guess maybe they don't understand the software, its not easy, but with that much power, what else do you expect.

ok maybe security software, or anit virus software don't like cain and able, but DUH!! thats because it can get almost all passwords used in windows and it does it well.

this is not a security issue. Normaly windows will ask you to type an administrator password when installing it. the problem came from computers who ships with already installed os (with admin blank password), and then yes like the other said, using any program like cain and abel, lophtcrack even LSAdump will do the work.

no, but you can set an admin password so that other users can go into the admin account.

however you can change the users password in CMD

To do that:

1. start in safe mode and login as admin

2. start, run, type: cmd

3. type in cmd: net users

4. look for the user that you want to change the password

5. type: net user usernameyouwant *

6. enter the new pass

if it didnt ask you to type the pass then check to make sure the user name has all the caps were they should be and that the star is placed righ.

If you have physical access, you can do anything you want - including hacking the SAM file, which is where these passwords are stored. Cant tell you how in a few sentences, but if you search wisely, you can find sites that will tell you in detail.

click on commence, Settings, administration Panel then click on person debts and locate your person account. there'll be a link that announces change password, and also you would possibly want to erase it and go away it sparkling in case you dont want a password.
