Take it to Auto Parts store that will test it for free and get back to us with the trouble code number and if possable also write down the freeze frame data too. Freeze data is what was happening when the first code occured. About 6 or 8 lines write it down carefully. Mercedes Benz and most all modern cars cannot take engine misfire that will overheat the cat converters and cost 1,000's to fix hope for the best like a misfitting gas cap. And how many miles is on the car?

jm,
Any number of things can turn your M.I.L. (malfunction indicator light) or "check engine" light. here are some links.

Your car should have OBDII system heres a good link

You will have to use scanner to retrieve code/codes stored in computer and then fix. Auto Zone scans for free or you can buy retriever relatively cheap and pull codes yourself. Do not pull fuses or disconnect battery. After code retreival you can erase codes with scanner..
Light is on for a reason it may be a big problem or small. Retrieve codes and fix. Heres a GREAT mercedes forum look for me there!! Lots of good info. there....

Try disconnecting the terminals on your battery for about 15 minutes. Thats what I did to my Jeep. Make sure you hook the battery terminals back up.
