About five days ago, I logged onto my computer like normal and connected to the internet. Shortly afterward, my computer shut down randomly ,without warning. Confused, I turned it back on, only to be told my monitor was in Power Save Mode - something I had manually disabled months ago. I turned my computer back off and waited for the next day. I turned it back on, and logged onto my computer. Nothing odd happened, until I logged onto the internet. It shut down once more. Confused, I waited until the next day to try and turn it back on. This time, I did not get the chance to try and log onto the internet - about thirty seconds after me turning my computer on, my computer shut down before my desktop even finished loading. So, yesterday I tried it again. My computer shut down before I was able to even log on. Today, I tried once more, and it told me it was once more on Power Save Mode. Has anyone heard of a virus that automatically shuts down your computer?

There are all kind of trojan viruses out there that can cause the type of behaviour that you describe.

When you start up you pc, keep clicking on the key F8 until you get into a safe mode. When in the safe mode run your antiviurs program. The icons will look very strange, this is normal for safe mode.

When you have completed your scan and the virus is found reboot your pc and you should be ok back with a boot in normal mode.
