In India, many husbands leave their wives and kids and go away with other females. Even if the wives are not working, these husbands do not bother to look after the survival needs of them. Law too has no strong remedy for this. Is it right?

whether or not you are working its never right!! If you decide to marry someone, you should understand that commitment and loyalty is part of it. No man or women has the right to leave someone for some else just because they feel like it

Although I'm not familiar with the laws in India let alone their comfort level of having a law that doesn't stipulate responsibilities of a father and/husband to thier family{s}. So whether it's right or wrong, it doesn't apply. In order for this particular issue to be resolved and or modified, it would have to become a Petition to your government etc...in order to have the 'higher ups' rectify the situation. In the meantime, a visa to move to the US isn't a bad idea. At least maybe you'll have half a chance at the very least...child support, a roof over your head and a chance for an education to get a job and make it on your own in a better enviornment. Keep networking and hopfully you'll find a solution. Good luck

Well, then the law needs to be changed. Marriage is a contract - two people agreeing to live a life together, working together to make a life and children are a part of that life together. A man should not have the right to just walk away and leave the woman with all of the responsibility on her shoulders. Working or not should not have much bearing on this. Just because a woman has a job does not mean that if her husband leaves she will have the finances to provide for their children adequately.

Is this a cultural thing that goes back in time or is it something that is new in your culture?
The husbands you talk about are they well earning husbands or any husband that is working?
There are many Indians in the country that I was born and I did not see this problem among the Indian community there.
Besides the legality about this,I thought the Indians were morally upright.
I read and understood that a women has to pay a dowry to get married in India. So what happens to the dowry in this case.In the West they will call it abandonment in India do you have a word to describe this situation?
I am sorry to ask you so many questions but with cultural differences and my ignorance I would like to know a little more before I could commit myself to answer this important question that effects many women and children.

Its not the question of right when husband leave a wife.. people leave spouse for the personal matters not getting resolved between two and there is no fun living together. Getting married does not mean one have to live together by all means.. having children does not mean parents do not have life to live.. Life is there till one dies and conflicts needs to be resolved between two.. Understanding and live a life is more important and if its need of human.. If husband does not care for the wife or children than its a bad relationship as human in general care for all who loved him whatever happens.

You are not in India and there are laws in the United States. Talk to a lawyer and if you have been married over 10 years you are entitled to alimony, and if he has retirement you are entitled to half of that. Go get him girl make him pay. He will wish that he had never heard of the other woman, it really gets a man when you touch him in the pocketbook. Good Luck!

Well in a country where there is no law to help, and where it seems like often the man is the only source of income, then NO. The wife has no skills most likely, no money, that's just horrible! It's hard to say they can't get a divorce, but without child support or alimony or something, unfair.

No it isn't right. But I don't think any woman should be dependent on a man period. If my husband were to leave tomorrow I know I make enough to support me and my kids. I would never let someone have that much control over me.

No it is not right and it is never right when they desert their families. I don't know what your laws are there but here men are responsible to pay child support untill the child is18 years old. I feel very sorry for these women and children that are left this way and the government in your country should make them support the children to make sure that they are provided for . Best wishes sweetie.

No, it is reprehensible. However, as long as women in countries, such as India, allow themselves to be treated like dogs, there will be sleazeballs who will. This is more of a lacking of Women's rights than a question of men's. In America an abandoned spouse &/or children have legal redress.
One problem many foreign employees of American corporations have, is that they face female superiors, whom they immediately detest & try to circumvent, simply based on gender.
