Go now, if you can swing it! Even though it sounds like it would be "uncool" in the eyes of your kids or others, I have found in my experience that when parents and kids are attending school together, they are the best support systems for each other.
My father started college when I was a junior in high school. I wound up helping him with a lot of his initial coursework (he's really smart, but he'd been out of school for 23 years - longer than I had been alive!), and we kind of bonded over it. It also made me focus more on school in the long run, and I did better in school because I was helping him with university-level coursework.
Whether you start now or start after your kids are done, your decision to return to school will show your kids how important you feel education is - and that's a lesson you really should feel good about showing them.
Good luck!

No not really... Im going to college soon and i think it would be awesome to have my mum go too. I would feel the same if i was going to uni... If you are a fun, interesting to talk to parent then there is nothing embarressing. If you are not your childrens friend aswel as parent then they will think it very uncool..it depends on your relationship with them, and also on how well liked they are by their peers. If they have lots of friends then you wont spoil their reputation. if they only have a few friends then they will likely get made fun of a lot.

I'm a 43 year old at uni at the moment and it's wonderful! It certainly is not uncool - not that I would care if it was!
Go for it and enjoy yourself. Don't worry if you are at the same one as your kids. As long as you are not doing the same course, they are so big that its likely that you won't even be on campus at the same time so no one need ever know!
Good luck.

I'm 37 and I've just completed a BA (Hons) History degree, I loved every minute, but my kids are still under the age of 11. There was a lad on the same course as his mother, I don't think that he enjoyed it too much, I think she cramped his style.
I did mine now so that the kids would appreciate the changes more in their teens, and miss out things early rather later in life.

I was a university teacher for 41 years and have seen many examples of this. In the earlier years it seemed to work very well. The students seemed to like having a mother figure among them - and such a person formed a useful bridge between staff and students.
In later years, however, such mature students told me that they found it very hard to link up with a younger generation only interested in music and alcohol.
However, never mind what's cool. University is available for people at whatever age it suits them to attend.
So, if you want to study, then go for it.
Good luck.

You go for it girl. They will just have to live with the idea and it could become competitive to see who gets the best degree
I started uni at 38 and now two years in I' still enjoying the challenges that the course throws up. Good luck.

Go for it!
I started Uni at 30 and it's the best thing i've ever done. I have a step son who is just about to start college and this gives us something in comon to talk about. We can even support each other - just make sure you talk to your children first if you are planning to go to the same uni.
Good luck

Well, a lot of people are going to say it is uncool, and it might well be, but don't listen to those people. Go to university for the enlightenment; who cares if people start calling you a nerd. Remember, you have to go home every night, look at yourself in the mirror, and be happy with what you see. Don't let ignorant people choose your life for you.

i started uni this year and thought how cool it was that older people could go and get help with younger kids (nursery and such). Im 21 so if my mum went to uni id encourage her but if she was in the same class...it would be a little too weird, other then that go for it.
