I agree with you there were so many great things they could have added to the H.P. movie. I read the first two books, before watching the movies then I stoped.
But I like reading the books first that way I can picture the character in my head, & then see the story, and wonder how do each character looks like, I think reading the book first makes it more exciting, cause you get to see it come alive. If I watch the movie I'm like why am I gonna read the book for?
Even though I know it's always very different. The movie is always from the director's point of view!
You know just for your information:
Draco is a greek word for: Dragon, it totally makes sence dragons being evil (some of the things in the H.P. novel are taken from greek mythology, like phoenix, fluffy the three headed dog(in greek Cerberus: Guardian of the underworld) and the basilica-snake which hercules fought & killed.
There were others but right now I can't remember!

I read the book. I love Harry Potter. I love reading and so the book gives me a background on the movie.I love lying in bed or on the beach reading.I love escaping into the world of fantasy for more than just two hours. Reading the book and wondering what will happen next is what reading books is all about.Except those know it all self help books...They have to leave stuff out because the movie can't be 10hours long. That's why I read the book first so I know the other details.Hope that Helped Matticus!

I read the book first, oddly, for the same reasons you don't.
While I'm reading I make my own movie in my head, exactly the way I want it, and nothing gets changed or left out. I still get pissed when I see the movie, but at least I saw it how I wanted without THEIR ideas of how it should be poppin in my head during the book...if that makes sense...
The book/movie I set a record for getting pissed over is LOTR-ROTK. I'm not a lotr geek or anything (ok, maybe I am, a little) but my fav part was "the scouring of the shire", and that was left out.....Oh, and I agree...The harry potter thing got me going to.

The movie is almost never as good as the book, except "Shawshank Redemption" Which is actually a short story written by Stephen King called "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" in his book Different Seasons. Crazy huh? Especially since it is Stephen King. And if I watch the movie first I don't get to imagine what I think the characters should look like so I'm cheating myself. So, I would say, in general, read the book skip the movie.

I always read the book first, not matter how dissapointing the movie turns out to be.
I agree with you on the Harry Potter films, but really only on the third and fourth one.

i agree with the harry potter thing..i read the six books..Harry potter and the Goblet of fire was the one which they cut aloooot from it..example the hermione granger thing with the elves...Harry potter's aunt didnt even appear in the movie..and so did Bill..and most of the lessons they take on school as usual are cut off..eventhough if someone sees the movie without reading the book ..it is nice..they filmed the part of the world cup in a very nice way ..when Irish and Bulgarian entered..and The dance of Fleur and her sister is nice ... but since i read harry potter and the order of the phoenix..i hope they dont cut alot from it
if you like stories like crime and stuff...i really like Agatha Christie..i advice you to read all of her books( i know it is impossible..:D but they are all nice..) especially death on the nile..it is my favourite books...and even if you watch the movie after you read the book..you never get pissed..b/c it is a crime so they cant cut off alot

I used to have to read the book before seeing the movie, then when I'd finally see the movie I would be so distracted finding all the differences I'd miss the entire movie! lol, so movie first for me too!

I read more than I go to the movies. So if I've read the book, I rarely see the movie because I know it won't measure up. The very worst example of this is The Color Purple. They ruined the ending.

I found that by reading Jurassic park I ruined the film as it was about an hour shorter than the book's story.
It was useful reading the Da Vinci code because it meant that I didn't need to waste money going to see that crap.
