Road A - Hit 15 to 22 home runs, 48 to 69 rbi's, bat .258 to .265 a year and make 400,000 to 700,000 a year max. You don't take streoids and you honor the game. You get traded just about every other 2 years.
Road B - Hit 35 to 50 home runs, 120 - 130+ rbi's, bat .298 to .315+ a year and make 8,000,000 to 13,000,000 a year plus endorsements. You take steroids and you see it as being a provider for your family and it's not really hurting any one. You have a nice contract that keeps you in one place.

First off I'm not doing the thumbs down.
haroldandsivakumar. Do you like to hear yourself talk? Damon and Giambi have nothing to do with this.
Don't jump to conclusions. I'm not a fan of steroids nor am I giving it too much credit. I'm just giving you two options period. If a man wants to provide for his family he will do whatever it takes to get the job done if it is not causing any one any harm. If he wants to sacrifice his body for that cuase that's his call.

I would have to say that my competitive spirit would have have me take road B I would like to say that I would take road A but come on lets be honest here the incentives are just too great to choose the other path. Everyone who is saying road A is either naive, stupid, or simply a liar that is way too much money and fame to pass up. Everyone needs to be honest with themselves and to the guy who said the fan gets hurt no they do not, no harm is done to any fan by a player taking the juice so every one needs to get off their high horse. And finally steroids do not make players that much better, they do not improve hand eye coordination. They may be the difference between a 395 foot ball and a 400 foot ball.

As a newly married man and a baseball purist,I would choose road A. With the right planning, your kids kids could be financially set with your income of 400,000 to 700,000. Especially if you make that over an eight to 10 year span.
I would gladly give my last breath to provide and secure for my family, but I want to be around to watch everyone grow up. Being roid free will only help that cause. So moving two or three times in an eight year period and being able to set up my future family, where do I sign up?

I have no idea what I'd do if actually faced with the situation, but I think I'd be scared into doing it the right way. I don't wanna get black balled like Palmeiro. And it's a terrific game, but it's not worth risking your life over.
Ohh nooooooooo 400,000 to 700,000 per year. It's more than enough to provide for my family, the only difference is that I don't get to indulge in tons of empty luxuries. The getting traded constantly would bother me but not a lot.
But I think I'd make at least a million if I'm hitting 20 HR's and batting .260-ish. Take Marcus Giles for example:
2006 stats: .262 AVG, 11 HR, 60 RBI
2005 stats: .291/16/63
Not perfect, but those stats are comparable. Marcus Giles makes $3.25 million this year. With that salary I could afford to have 27 kids, put them all through college with no problem. Wife wouldn't even need a part-time job if she wants to stay home. I'm not gonna try to mess with that scenerio over a bunch of empty, steriods induced "accomplishments."
Cripes, I'm coming out of college and I'm looking to make 50 thousand per year, and that is supposed to be a whole lot of money. If I got 400,000 per year I'd take that in a heartbeat.

If you hit 15-22 home runs a year then you are most likely not going to get traded every 2 years, those are some solid numbers so i would probably get a better contract than 700,000. So I would take road A.

I would honestly take Road A. I don't think I would have any trouble "providing for my family" on 700,00 dollars a year since I did so on salaries ranging from 4000 dollars to 55 thousand dollars a year over a 40 year span. You have described Kenny Lofton, one of the most respected players in the game today. There is no reason to cheat and lie to get ahead. One's character is the only thing that can never be taken away from him.

I answer b and anyone on here with a competitive spirit would. Mike Schmidt flat out said he would have taken steroids if they were readily available when he played. He said all atheletes are competators and you want any advantage you can get. Much like corking the bat or buying more expensive bats or balls in softball. Taking caffeine pills, or energy boosters. Players have always wanted an edge. Not so much for the extra money or big contracts but because thier competitive spirit takes over and they want to win and be the best the possibly can be. I am an eight time state softball champion and took 5th in the world. I have never taken steroids or anything else into my body,(its just not common around here) but i have modified titanium bats to make them sound like regular aluminum. I have baked softballs in the microwave in hit your own ball tourneys. I have bought top of the line bats and balls. We all look for the edge. I dont blame any of the mlb players and especially dont blame them prior to it being tested for and illegal.

I would rather take road A. I honor the game and would not cheat and take steroids. I would not really care about the money as long as I am having fun.

Road A - $400,000 to $700,000 each year ain't bad my friend and if you invest properly you will live a very comfortable life.
"Live" is the optimum word here. I want to live a long and HEALTHY life and I can do that WITHOUT steroids.
Taking steroids doesn't make one competitive, it makes one a cheater!
