I saw a clip from Powell and Pressburger's "A Matter Of Life And Death" in the trailer for that programme, and I'd like it to win, as I think it's one of the finest, most wonderful films ever made. All decent men should aspire to be more like David Niven, in my opinion. But it'll probably be bloody "Apocalypse Now" again. What a dreary, overwrought mess that film is.

So many good ones. My personal favourites are Good Morning Vietnam, A Bridge too far and Saving Private Ryan. I would also add in I love Escape to Victory - not so much a war film but spose you can count it too.

I think one of the old ones will take top spot... battle of Britain or something similar, I think Deer hunter is one of the best even though I only see it a couple of years ago ( I was too young when it was released) It's one of the best I've seen.
