Or is it something that's just man made?

Well I do agree it is "man made" and self serving, which is the case with most organizations, positive or not. Its a personal choice, masses move mountains, yet may not move your heart.

As a minister, the path to enlightenment can come from an abundant amount of sources and one of them is organized religion.

There is not "Cookie cutter" participant in each religion, it is assumed that we all think the same, and that is simply not the case.

Be true to your heart and find you soul every where you look. Have patience, since a journey will take you many places and not all are beautiful, so you must locate and identify best and keep it in your heart. I recommend a "spirit" journal to track you positive and negative feelings as you find what you are looking for in your road to redemption.

God has many forms, names, shapes, sizes and colors. The theological journey is awesome, the more you know the more vast it becomes. Best wishes.

It might be the right path for you, perhaps, but probably not for the majority of people - despite the fact that most people would tell you that they belong to one organized religion or another. Religion is by it's very nature rooted in old scriptures or religious documents, other than differing interpretations of the same thing, is very static. I would say that no progression of the human race is likely if people unquestioningly follow the dogmas of organized religion.
Is it man made? No one can say for sure. The resolution of this question largely depends on the bigger question, namely; whether or not God exists. This is generally viewed as an insoluble enigma and so comes down to whether you trust logic and intellect, or faith in the supernatural.

I don't think that organized religion is the right path. I believe that the right path is to get a book with the teachings of any given religion and choose which to believe and which not to. I personally like religions that are based on teachings and not on probably false stories. Buddhism is an example of this type of religion.

i won't say what is right, or wrong, but here is my unbiased opinion on religion:

greek mythology use to be "real". people actually believed that all the gods and stories we read today were true consequences and morals. today, we read about ancient greek myths and think it's silly they believed in the creatures they believed in. so what makes religion today any different? a man in the sky, heaven and hell, a man's resurrection, splitting a sea...it's all in a book. just like greek myths.

with that said, organized religion is absolutely man made. someone wrote the bible. a human wrote the bible. whether the stories are true or not, a man wrote them down.

the "right" path is your own path. believe in god if it makes you feel safe, believe in ghost if you like to be scared, believe in mickey mouse if he makes you happy. believe in your own thoughts, what you have learned and what makes you feel the best, not what a bunch of other people tell you will make you happy.

Absolutely NOT!! It's VERY organized by power mongering patriarcho-fascists to insure their status and wealth; and minimally designed to "heal the flock". Just look carefully--insightfully/intuitively at the "top dogs" in the major practices--witness the scandals and hypocracy sanctioned by and participated in by this "leadership". Becomes rhetorical, eh?

Why not devise a practice for yourself focussed on getting in touch with the "Beings/energies" you're interested in for your enlightenment/healing. Perhaps utilizing the traditions of the ESOTERIC practices of, say Buddhism, Taoism, and, yes Christianity and/or Judaism--such do exist and can be searched out.

The popular/mainstream practices are for the unimaginative and/or brainwashed. Be an individual!! :))

Check out Gnostic Christianity, Essene based Judaism/Christianity, Tibetan Buddhism, Taoism and Hinduism, Shinto, Wicca-and paganism generally; ancient Egyptian spirituality for starters. Best of luck :))

The right path to what?
It is the right path for many people - especially those looking for ritual and tradition to guide them in leading a moral life.

But, right path or not, orgainized religion is definitely man made.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, follow an organized religion, they tell them the meaning of life....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

it's DEFINITELY something man-made.

Faith is good, but religion is often flawed. I've been much happier these past 11 years NOT going to church, but rather developing my own faith without it being tainted by structured views and rules.
