I just take the hard drive out of one and hook both hard drives up to the same computer, that is the easiest and non technical way to do it, to do so... remove hard drive from one computer and mount it in the other, plug in the power chord, plug in the ribbon wire (or if you have a newer computer, it will be a single SATA wire) and turn on the computer and the hard drive will be in the My Computer section so you can do some transfers.

Sir,
U dont need any sort of Router or anything…just you have to
•Install Network Interface Card (NIC) in each computer.
•Connect both the PC’s using a crossover cable.
•Provide the IP address to both the machines.
START > Control Panel > Network Connections
Right Click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
Go for TCP/IP Properties in the general Tab
Enter an IP Address 10.0.0.1 with Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0
Click OK
•Repeat the same process for the second computer but with IP as 10.0.0.2
•Share the files u want to transfer.

ITS EASY THAN IT SEEMS.......... just remember that.
www.pricewatch.com offers great prices
you need one network card in each computer
here's a link for a cheap one.
http://www.eaglebit.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EB-400-00531&Click=14
then you need a router that you will connect network cables from both computers (you can also plug your highspeed interent into this to share it with the two computers)
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=LS-BEFSR41&c=pw
hook everything up.
have dhcp active in the properties of both network card's tcp/ip settings.
control panel, network connections (play around in the up coming windows, just don't switch anything until you find dhcp. its actually (obtain "blank" automaticly)
oh and its important that both computers are in the same "work group" ---------- control panel, system, "computer name" tab, and then "change"
and the router needs dhcp too (it should be on by defualt) (read the manual)
then from there, in my computer, pick out folders or drives you wish to share. right click on them and choose "sharing" then activate file and print sharing ---- it will give you a warning, but if you want to share files you have to activate it.
so that's pretty much it. in a nutshell.
oh and you might need extra network cable. Its always nice to have at least 1 long extention.
here's a link for 15ft for 15 bucks its called cat 5 cable
https://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/query.asp?q=3827BL-15&pw=Y
good luck
other people talk about drives, but this is the only permanant solution, no walking back and forth every time you want to transfer data either.
I have 3 on my network and use file sharing to watch movies on our TV's in each room, and all from 1 hard drive. Sweet huh?
plus this only costs arooooooooound 70 dollars and you'll never have to get it replaced.
PLUS you have two full working computers, and the router has a built in firewall for security (the routers a computer too)

first, you have to setup a home network and you must have DSL or Broadband, NOT DIALUP. You must purchase a Broadband Router (I recommend LinkSys) Included are instructions on how to set one up. To share files, place the files in the computer's Shared Documents folder. On the other computer, go to start ==> run. Type in \\COMPUTER_NAME
Replace COMPUTER_NAME with the name of your other computer. Then just drag and drop.

the best was is to get a flash drive. it almost looks like a small mp3 player. but it goes right into your usb port. all you have to do is copy the information onto it from one computer. take it out plug it into the other computer and copy it where you want it to go. then just erase the drive and do it again. you can buy them almost anywhere and they come in many different memory sizes depending on your budget and the kind of files you want to move. its the safest way

Select the folder that contains the data you wish to share, right-click on the folder to bring up a menu and click properties, then click on the sharing tab and follow the instructions.

Vikram is right!
The LAN wire for this is known as a Connector!
It is same as normal LAN wire bt different in placing of Color codes (small wires hooked up to the plastic, there position matters)..
This is the easiest way for sharing b/w 2 PC's...
For this u r not required any router...
