Its a bit like the gulls you see in a school playground. During the hols they are not around. The first day of school is quiet, but as soon as the gulls notice the rubbish is back on the playground they are there until 2-3 days after the kids break up for hols again. They soon know where the food is to be had.
Gulls just swoop in from the nearest landfill site or school and there you are.

Telepathy. Far more advanced than in humans. Humans, at their current level of consciousness, are arrogant and unimaginitive, generally, and feel that they are the most evolved species on the planet, have all the answers and all the intelligence and wisdom. Based on their behavior, alone, such could not possibly be the case, eh? :)))

Perhaps the wind is blowing downwind from the plowed field toward the sea and the gulls and the smell of fresh dirt alerts them...

They cover huge areas in a day, and may often return to inland spots that provided food before.
