I prefer small neighborhood shops.
You just can't pass up the service you get in those places. Plus it becomes like a family after you get to know them. Something that big shops are never going to be able to do.

For the items you are suggesting I would think the downtown suburbs near a university. You say that the location in everything..that is somewhat true. If your overhead supersedes the profits you are in big trouble fast. Backpacks are seasonal unless you are located very close to a campus. Marketing and advertising is a big part of your strategy

(1). A big indoor mall has the advantage that you aren't bothered by rain, snow, cold or heat. It also is a destination where you can park (for free) and then shop at a variety of stores and also eat. None of the others have the indoor comfort and the no-problem parking.

oh my god. i read through yoru list, and i have to say ALL of them. how can a girl choose between one? big indoor mallsa re good for hot days, big outdoor malls are good for exercise and hanging out with frends and nice weather, big city is just awesome because you see so many different people and there is such interesting shops, small trendy suburb downtown just as AWESOME stores!!!

I just like to shop where the sales are! Ever since gas went up sky high...it's nice to be able to save some money when shopping.

Assuming you are opening up a one-person business as your first business venture, I would imagine that your funds are limited. Therefore your location would be dictated by your financial wherewithal rather than by which shopping area is most popular
