The "fabric" is a concept much like the lines on a graph paper or flux lines around a magnet. The aether is a hypothetical physical or material medium through which light waves are supposed to travel. Two very different things.

The existence of aether has been disproved, mainly by the Michelson-Morley experiments. The 'fabric' of space is only noticeable at spatial ranges smaller than 1.6^ minus 35 meters (..the quantum world..) where it's found to consist of sharp peaks and valleys of energy.

if there is an aether, it is TIME, which proceeds in all directions at C, the so-called speed of light.
Light is taking all the credit for its quickness, but actually its just "latching on" to time (due to its low harmonic content) and riding it like a commuter in a train.
One proof if this is that as an object approaches a speed of C, time passes less quickly.

NO It is absolute nothing. The gravity sources suck all the atmosphere to them.
